Intro Sound

Maribelle Mom: Maribelle, your father and I would like to talk to you.

Maribelle: Coming

Stairs

Maribelle: Whats up?

Maribelle Mom: Do you want to explain why you planted a tree circle in the backyard?

Maribelle: It’s the final for my Environmental Science class.

Maribelle Dad: We thought you were just planting some trees not making a devil worship area.

Maribelle: It’s not. It represents the cycle of life and the cycle of seasons.

Maribelle Mom: That is such bullshit! Dig it up.

Maribelle: It has to be a shape.

Maribelle Dad: A cross is a shape. Why not replant them into a cross?

Maribelle: Because I chose a circle.

Maribelle Mom: I bet that witchy little half-breed Betty put you up to it. You know she’s doin’ the devil's work.

Maribelle: Would you just stop with the devil worship? Betty’s religion is so much more accepting than your brand of Christianity. Sometimes I wish I was Pagan because at least they care about you as a person.

Maribelle Mom: That’s the devil talkin’! Oh lord, I knew we shouldn’t have let the two of you be friends. Then that Penny girl, well, you already saw what happens to sinners who go against the word of God. It’s only a matter of time ‘til it catches up to Betty too.

Maribelle: Mom, are you really saying Penny went missing because she was a lesbian? Well then maybe I should have gone missing too, because we are dating and I love her. I’ve loved her since the first Grove Fair at the end of eighth grade. That’s when we first kissed right there under the water tower, and I knew right then and there that I was going to spend the rest of my life with that perfect human. It didn’t matter if she was a woman. It didn’t matter if we were the same sex. All that mattered is she held me when I cried. She loved me unconditionally, which is more than I can say for you two.(Beat) So if my love is a sin, then I’ll happily skip down the highway to hell hand in hand with the devil himself.

Maribelle Dad: Get. Out.

Maribelle: Fine I will.

Stairs and sound of dialing

Betty: Hello?

Maribelle: Can you come pick me up? I just got kicked out.

Sound of incoming call beeping

Betty: Yeah I’ll be on my way do-

Maribelle: Hold on the other line is beeping.

Guardian: Hello Maribelle. I am impressed by the quick work for the trees. Your next task is to make me a circle of birds in those trees.

Maribelle: You want me to kill birds for you? That’s gross! Also, I totally can’t do it in my backyard.

Guardian: I have come to know that family can be very hard to deal with. Especially with you leaving them now, but if you love Penny the way you claim to then you’ll do this for her. I’ll give you two days.

Maribelle: How do you know so much about my life? You don’t even know me.

Guardian: Of course I do. I have spent the last three years watching as you, Betty, and Penny tried to find me. I was so sure you would be able to save Penny's mom. You’ve been on the right track the whole time.

Maribelle: Could you still do that? Is it possible for you to still help Penny's mom?

Guardian: Yes, but I can only offer help to one person at a time. I thought you wanted to find Penny.

Maribelle: I do. I want to find her so badly.

Guardian: Place the sacrifice. I’m sure your family won’t have time to mind.

Maribelle: Fuck.

Betty: What?

Maribelle: It was the Guardian and it wants me to kill birds and put them in a circle in the trees in my backyard….

Betty: Oh fuck. Yeah, that’s going to go over so well. Look, we can talk about it when I pick you up.
