Maribelle: So it’s been two days since I met Eleanor, and with her help I’ve found more birds in double circles but in different parts of the woods. Always in tree circles.
Betty: That’s so weird. Like who even does that?
Maribelle: I think it’s the guardian. Eleanor thinks it’s something else. Maybe a group of people.
Betty: Makes sense. We did hear chanting like a whole group of people chanting.
Maribelle: It’s the guardian. They are beyond human concept. Why couldn’t they sound like a huge group of people chanting.
Betty: Because the guardian is just one person.
Phone rings in background
Maribelle: Anyways, point is I need to come sleep over at your place so I can go back out into the woods at night.
Betty: Totally! We need to figure out what happened.
Maribelle’s Mom: Mari hun, you got a phone call. Wanna take it on your phone?
Maribelle: Yes mom.
Betty: Like Penny.
Maribelle: We won’t now shush it could be Eleanor. Mom, I got it.
Maribelle Mom: Okay, you two have a nice chat.
Maribelle: Hello?

Silence
Betty: Is it the mysterious Eleanor?
Maribelle: Who is this?
Betty: Guess not...
Guardian: I believe you refer to me as The Guardian.

Guardian: I know where Penny is.
Maribelle: Where?
Guardian: I can’t tell you. All information comes at a price. That was what I learned on this planet.
Maribelle: Planet?

Guardian: All will be revealed in time. Now, if you want to find Penny you’ll have to listen to everything I say and follow my instructions. Reply yes if you understand.
Maribelle: I understand.
Guardian: Clearly you do not. I said answer yes. You’re going to have to do better than that if you are going to find her.

Sound of phone crashing to the floor.
Maribelle Mom: Honey are you okay? Who was on the phone?
Maribelle: No one. Just go away!
Maribelle Mom: Maribelle Ann Cook you are going to tell me what’s wrong right this minute or you’ll be grounded from going into those demon woods.
Maribelle: It was just a friend from school. We got in a fight.
Maribelle Mom: Well that’s no reason to throw the phone. Now, are you going to behave or is Betty going to have to go home.
Maribelle: Sorry mom.
Maribelle Mom: Good. Now, dinner will be ready in about fifteen minutes. And how many times do I have to tell you to keep the door open? I don’t want you doing whatever it is her kind does here.
Silence.
Betty: Who was that?
Maribelle: The Guardian. Or some dude pretending to be the guardian. He said he knew where Penny was. Then I didn’t do exactly as he said and he hung up on me.
Betty: The guardian! Really? Do you think it’s real?
Maribelle: I do. At least...I have to.
Betty: Okay then I believe to. If the Guardian knows where Penny is we have to do everything in our power to please him, gain his favor, and use our wish to get her back. No matter what.
Maribelle: No matter what.
