Intro sound
Detective Johnson: This is detective Johnson with Willow P.D. interviewing Betty Collins. She is accompanied by her Mother, Ms. Collins. (Pause) Now Betty, tell us, in your own words, what happened the night Penny went missing.
Betty: It all started when Penny told me she was going to propose to Maribelle.
Music
Penny: I saved up all summer for it; do you think she’ll like it?
Betty: Of course she will! I can’t believe you spent all summer with some snot-nosed brats and were able to get something this beautiful.
Penny: I just want to do what makes my Belle happy. Know we can’t get married but, I want her to be with me forever. And, if it were up to me, I’d give her my class ring, but I overheard the two of you talking about how she wants a real ring.
Betty: Yeah, she can be a bit of a sap.
Penny: I know, but I love her too much not to fall for it. I may be a bad girl on the exterior, but she melts my frozen, black heart.
Girls laugh
Penny: Okay here she comes; now the plan is we are going to look for the guardian but really we are going to this really pretty grove for the proposal.
Detective Johnson: Okay so you kids were going out, into the woods, in the middle of the night, to do a fake lesbian proposal.
Betty: You make it sound incredibly boring and unromantic. Penny and Maribelle have been dating since Freshman year. That’s four whole years and they are finally going to get to be happy when we leave this narrow -minded town and never come back.
Detective Johnson: I’m just trying to get all the facts. Now tell me about this chanting you heard.
Betty: Riiiight….I don’t quite know where we were but we saw a light and heard chanting coming from a small, empty patch in the woods.
Music
Penny: Okay it’s just over this ridge.
Betty: Good because my feet hurt.
Penny: I told you to wear walking shoes. It’s not my fault you didn’t listen to me.
Betty: Whatever. Come on, let’s pick up the pace.
Chanting starts
Betty: What’s that?
Penny: Sounds like chanting and it’s coming from over there.
Detective Johnson: Were you able to tell what they were saying.
Betty: No, it sounded like a completely foreign language. Or even a made up one. I don’t know...it was just weird.
Chanting growing louder
Betty: Penny, we need to go.
Penny: I just want to check it out.
Betty: Penny!
Betty: That’s when they spotted us...the entire mass of people in these dark purple robes
Detective Johnson: Are you sure they were purple and not black? Sounds like a Satanic Cult to me.
Betty: They weren’t Satanic. At least, I don’t think they were.
Detective Johnson: Well it sounds to me like Penny probably ran off when all of you started running.
Betty: That’s the thing, I heard her scream. So did Maribelle. We heard her scream-
Penny: Let me go!
Detective Johnson: So you think this cult-
Betty: Group of people
Detective Johnson: Cult...you think they took Penny.
Betty: Yes I do. She never came back to my house that night.
Detective Johnson: She was supposed to?
Betty: Yes all three of us were supposed to be sleeping over at my place but this happened.
Detective Johnson: Betty, do you know what happens if you lie to a police officer?
Betty: Yes, but that’s not relevant. I’m telling you the truth.
Detective Johnson: We’ve combed those woods and have not found her. It’s been a week! I need to know the truth. Her family is worried sick, and you and I both know they don’t need that in their lives.
Betty's Mom: I think we are done here. Thank you Detective Johnson.
Detective Johnson: I’ll be watching you, so don’t leave town.
